Selected Artificial Intelligence Legislation in the 118 th Congress:

Overview A search of Congress.gov for legislation introduced in the 118 th Congress with ³DUWLILFLDO LQWHOOLJHQFH´ or the related terms in the title or text resulted in 349 bills. 2 Of those, CRS identified 30 bills meeting the aforementioned criteria, of which 5 are identical or nearly identical bills. Information in this memorandum may be of general interest to Congress.As such, all or part of this information may be provided in other CRS written products or used to respond to other requests. Selected AI Legislation in the 118 th Congress The Content Origin Protection and Integrity from Edited and Deepfaked MediaAct of 2024 (S. 4674) was introduced on July 11, 2024. The bill would require the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to develop a public-private partnership to facilitate the development of standards for content provenance technologies and synthetic content detection. Taking into account such standards, the bill would require providers of tools for generating synthetic, or synthetically-modified, content to provide users with the ability to provide provenance information.
